Garmin InReach Mini
This is always turned on when I’m in Angeles NF or someplace I know doesn't have cell reception. It’s the most reliable way to get a hold of me because it works when I’m away from the car‘s Starlink. You can track and initiate a message thread with me here: https://share.garmin.com/mmutti/
• Password = watchmego
Cell Phone
I have two phone lines on my iPhone 16 Pro Max:
- Verizon: 818-261-5296
- T-Mobile/Starlink: 213-543-7454
APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting System)
This is a location beaconing system ham radio operators like to use, and I sometimes have it passively on. This ID is updated by my handheld radios: https://aprs.fi/#!z=11&call=a%2FK3MGM&timerange=86400&tail=86400
Shoes
Adidas Terrex, size 11.5. I don’t do any real hiking alone these days, so no trekking poles would be present if I went out alone

Descriptions
Physical Appearance
I am 5' 6", brown hair, glasses, and usually wear 'gray man' colors (or lack thereof)

Car
I drive a silver 2016 Lexus GX-460. It usually has a 5’ tall ham radio antenna with a Jack in the Box antenna ball at the base, and a flatmount Starlink dish hidden down in the roof rack rails
Habits & Frequent Places
I’m in Angeles National Forest most Tuesdays, with my car or close to it. I’ll be at one of these places:
- Caltrans trash cleanup along Highway 2
- Chilao campgrounds: Little Pines, and Manzanita
- Chilao School
- "The Pines" off of Angeles Forest Highway
- Buckhorn Campground
- Mount Wilson Observatory
- Mount Mooney Road
- Mount Pacifico
I no longer tackle hikes of significance alone. When I do small hikes alone, I have my Garmin, a ham radio, and water
If something were to happen to me, it would not be self-inflicted, and very unlikely a result of lack of basic preparedness
