Flint Peak 2: Redemption.

Flint Peak 2: Redemption.

Last time I visited Flint Peak, it did not go well. I was alone, in a funky mood, rushed, and having gear problems. If bored, read about it here:

W6/CT-225: Flint Peak, a failed activation
A short hike but a hot spot for RFI. My only SOTA hike (so far) where I failed to activate

But this time was so different! I'm still taken aback by the fantastic concept Chris (KI6CR) came up with, and how well it went the other day. He arranged a special SOTA (Summits on the Air) activation this past Friday with a goal of exposing non-hams to the hobby. He invited a few industry colleagues, and they along with Edward (KO6DVZ) and myself headed up to Flint Peak.

Any time I didn't have a big grin on my face, I was hiding the joy I enjoyed not only over a fun and busy "Ham Hike", but the innocents really embracing the radios, contacts, terminology, and beyond. The enthusiasm was contagious, and I have to say that Chris really hit the nail on the head with this concept! Getting folks on the air is such a great way of evangelizing the hobby. He even had a great verbal crash course he threw at them on the hike up.

Time for me to put on my thinking cap and see who I know that might be interested in something like this. The more I think about it, the more names I can think up, hmm...

Edward (KO6DVZ) was nice enough to deploy his Yaesu FT-891 which is a super cool radio. Plus 100W on a SOTA is nice 👌
